The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) is a government-backed programme run by India’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs It places young Indians in paid internships with participating companies across the country. The 2026 round (Round III of the pilot) offers a higher stipend, shorter internships and wider eligibility than the original pilot.
What Is New in 2026?
The age range is now 18 to 25 years, internships last 6 or 9 months, and interns receive a minimum of ₹9,000 per month In April 2026 the Ministry also opened the scheme to eligible final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students, who must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their institution.
Stipend and Benefits
Selected interns receive at least ₹9,000 per month (government and company contributions combined) and a one-time ₹6,000 incidental grant Interns are also covered under PMJJBY and PMSBY insurance and receive a joint digital certificate from the Ministry and the host company after completion.
Who Can Apply?
You must be an Indian citizen aged 18 to 25, not in full-time employment and not in full-time education (final-year UG/PG students with an NOC are the exception).
The income of the applicant, parents or spouse must not exceed ₹12 lakh per year, and no applicable family member should be a regular government employee Graduates of institutions such as IITs, IIMs and NLUs, and holders of qualifications such as CA, CS, MBBS and MBA, are excluded.
How to Apply
Register on the official PMIS portal, complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC and fill in your profile Then browse the listed internships, check each role’s qualification, location and duration, and apply to the ones that match. Registration alone is not an application, so you must apply to individual listings.
Last Date
There is no single last date for the whole scheme. Every company listing has its own application window, so check the deadline on each internship before you apply.
Tips for Applicants
Keep your Aadhaar-linked mobile number active, make sure your bank account is DBT-ready, and apply to roles that match your qualification and district. Registration is free, so never pay anyone for a PMIS internship.
